Fifty-eight years ago, in 1967, seeking to associate its registered brand Texlene with a sport of great impact and popularity, Riopele decided to support the creation of a cycling team in partnership with Futebol Clube do Porto. Thus was born the Porto–Riopele–Texlene team, which quickly made its mark on the national peloton.
Over four intense years of activity, the team stood out in the main races of the cycling calendar, reaching its peak with a team victory and podium finish in the 1969 Volta a Portugal. The success on the road was also reflected off it: the athletes’ performance became the best testimony to the endurance and quality of Texlene — “the tireless fabric” — a symbol of Riopele’s capacity for innovation and perseverance.
Riopele’s involvement in cycling extended beyond competition. The company also promoted the Grande Prémio Riopele, held between 1969 and 1972, with four editions that earned a place of prestige in the national sporting scene. The first edition was won by Joaquim Agostinho, the greatest Portuguese cyclist of all time, whose legacy continues to inspire generations.
More than a communication strategy, Riopele’s commitment to cycling represented a dedication to community, sport, and resilience — values that remain alive in the company’s history.
