Riopele maintains growth trajectory in one of the most challenging years for the textile industry

back to news

In a particularly demanding context for the Portuguese textile industry, Riopele maintained a trajectory of sustained growth in 2025, reaching a consolidated turnover of €99 million, representing a slight increase compared to the previous year.

The production of fabrics for the fashion industry continued to be the group’s main area of activity, complemented by the apparel segment developed under the Riopele Fashion Solutions brand, as well as yarn trading.

Markets and internationalisation

In 2025, Spain, Canada, Denmark, the United States and Germany were Riopele’s main export markets. The Canadian and North American markets assumed a strategic role, driven by the appreciation of premium, sustainable and high-quality products, as well as by the recognition of the “Made in Portugal” label, associated with high standards of design, innovation, and compliance with social and environmental requirements.

The growing demand from international brands and retailers for suppliers aligned with sustainability and ethical principles has further strengthened Riopele’s positioning in external markets.

Sustainability and energy transition

As part of its sustainability strategy, Riopele launched a structured cycle of investments in energy transition in 2019, with the aim of achieving operational carbon neutrality by 2027, the year in which the company celebrates its centenary.

This plan, with cumulative investment exceeding €18 million, includes:

The installation of a biomass boiler to produce steam for the finishing department;
The implementation of three photovoltaic plants, located at Olifil (spinning), Riopele B (twisting and weaving) and Riopele A, the unit where the finishing department is located and which is currently in the final stage of its decarbonisation project.

People and skills development

Continuous training is a strategic pillar for Riopele. In 2025, 25,000 hours of training were delivered across 100 training initiatives, involving 980 employees and more than 25 training providers. This investment reflects the company’s commitment to developing its people and preparing for future challenges.
