The Riopele Sports Complex

back to news

On June 2, 1958, the José Dias de Oliveira football pitch was inaugurated, named in honor of Riopele’s founder. This investment represented not only the creation of a sports facility but also the reinforcement of the Oliveira family’s commitment to the well-being of employees and the community of Pousada de Saramagos.

The complex included two football pitches, a volleyball court, and a swimming pool, making it one of the most modern facilities in the region at the time. The project also featured social housing, a medical and nursing station, canteens, and recreation halls, reflecting the company’s strong social focus and its close ties to the community.

The inauguration was marked by a remarkable sports program, with two matches that symbolized the connection between the company and sports: Ruivanense Atlético Clube faced A.D. Oliveirense in the Riopele Sports Group Cup, while the junior team of Futebol Clube do Porto played against the Riopele Sports Group, competing for the Rioplex Fabrics Cup.

A space dedicated to employees and the community

More than six decades later, the José Dias de Oliveira Sports Complex remains under Riopele’s stewardship and stands as a symbol of collective identity. Today, it hosts several initiatives, most notably the Family Day, an annual event that brings together thousands of employees and their families for a day of celebration, fellowship, and sharing.
