The complex included two football pitches, a volleyball court, and a swimming pool, making it one of the most modern facilities in the region at the time. The project also featured social housing, a medical and nursing station, canteens, and recreation halls, reflecting the company’s strong social focus and its close ties to the community.
The inauguration was marked by a remarkable sports program, with two matches that symbolized the connection between the company and sports: Ruivanense Atlético Clube faced A.D. Oliveirense in the Riopele Sports Group Cup, while the junior team of Futebol Clube do Porto played against the Riopele Sports Group, competing for the Rioplex Fabrics Cup.
A space dedicated to employees and the community
More than six decades later, the José Dias de Oliveira Sports Complex remains under Riopele’s stewardship and stands as a symbol of collective identity. Today, it hosts several initiatives, most notably the Family Day, an annual event that brings together thousands of employees and their families for a day of celebration, fellowship, and sharing.
